Eleanor Pierre's Doctoral Working Thesis
Eleanor Pierre's doctoral working thesis topic is: Post Secondary Teachers' Perceptions of Professional Development for Improved Practice: A Comparative Study.
Teacher preparation experiences have been known to be incongruent with classroom realities (Kosnik and Beck, 2002, OISE). Yet to date no direct research surverying college teachers in Ontario and Technical Teachers in Trinidad and Tobago assessing needs for improved practice in a knowledge society has been done.
This study will examine post secondary teachers' perceptions of their training needs drawing from two geographic locations. Results may appeal to designers of teacher education programs, curriculum designers, educators, and administrators in education. Recognition of the developmental nature of teachers' professional growth and the need to assist teachers to acquire varying degrees of experience, professional expertise and proficiencies in various disciplines will certainly benefit any educational institution.
